Bastyr University 2012 Commencement Speaker Named

Dr. Christa Louise to address graduates at spring graduation ceremony

Kenmore, Wash. (February 21, 2012) — Bastyr University is excited to announce that Christa Louise, MS, PhD, will be the principal speaker at the University’s Thirty-First Annual Commencement Exercises on June 18, 2012, at Benaroya Hall in Seattle.

“Dr. Louise is an advocate for all of the natural health disciplines and is an articulate spokesperson for whole-person health, and we are delighted and honored that she has agreed to take part in our commencement exercises,” said Bastyr University President Daniel K. Church, PhD.

Dr. Louise has been the chief executive of the North American Board of Naturopathic Examiners since its inception in 2000, and since 1990 she also has served as director of testing for the Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Examinations (NPLEX), overseeing all aspects of exam development for biomedical and clinical sciences.

A member of the Naturopathic Coordinating Council since 2004, Dr. Louise is an editor and contributing author for the Foundations of Naturopathic Medicine Project. Prior to her work in the naturopathic profession, she worked with refugee programs at the local, state and national levels.

“The invitation to speak at commencement in the year that commemorates the 100th anniversary of Dr. John Bastyr’s birth is a great honor,” Dr. Louise said. “I feel privileged to have been part of this vital and vibrant naturopathic profession for 22 years.”
Bastyr University’s Thirty-First Annual Commencement Exercises are scheduled to start at 1 p.m. and will award students with doctoral, master’s and bachelor’s degrees in: naturopathic medicine, acupuncture and Oriental medicine, nutrition, exercise science and wellness, herbal sciences, health psychology and midwifery as well as certificates in naturopathic midwifery and Chinese herbal medicine.
